I sometimes like to write about opposing forces and opposing ideas and opposing philosophies and so many other opposing things.  Here’s a poem about two unusual things in opposition to each other.  In terms of length and time and power and distance we find which is the more potent of all that is short and long!

There are two dreams most sweet and inviting
Always just behind the unveiled curtain.
Each promising passion, pleasure and joy,
As each will make you smile and make you weep!
The new is always fresh and exciting.
The old always comforting and certain.
Neither is easy to win or destroy.
Both are difficult to earn and to keep!
And yes, in the desert there grows a rose
As rare as an angel unseen in flight.
But beyond the new lies the great ocean
That the wise and patient would endeavor!
For I know the short and long of life knows
The journey must let day merge into night.
Oh, youth and newness are sweet emotion!
But know ye…the sea goes on forever.
