Rail Advocates and Authors of “Fast Trains” Discuss the State of High Speed Rail in America

WASHINGTON D.C. On Sunday, February 10, 2013 at 6:00 pm, Author and Director of Public Outreach for the US High Speed Rail Association (USHSR) Emy Louie and her co-author Nancy Bolts will sign and discuss their new book “Fast Trains: America’s High Speed Future.” The event is scheduled to coincide with the international conference of the US High Speed Rail Association. The book signing will serve as a reception and forum for discussion among prominent advocates for high-speed rail in America and around the world who are expected for the conference. This is a full restaurant event, free and open to the public, and will take place at Busboys and Poets (1025 5th Street, NW) at the corner of 5th & K Street, NW.

Fast Trains was inspired in part by the surge of popularity, interest and ridership in rail travel as Americans overwhelmingly support advancements and investment in public transportation.

This book seeks to stimulate public interest in high-speed rail by focusing on the vast economic, environmental and lifestyle benefits of having a world-class high-speed rail system throughout America. Fast Trains foretells a bright future for high-speed rail through the use of vignettes that compare trips by automobile or airplane in the United States with high-speed rail trips elsewhere.

Author Emy Louie, is the Director of Public Outreach for the United States High Speed Rail Association (USHSR), a national non-profit organization that aims to build public, business and political support for a nationwide high-speed rail system. Co-author Nancy Bolts is a veteran marketing communications expert and president of Bolts Creative Communications. Bruce Johnson, the story designer, is a former correspondent for the New York Times and the Associated Press and has been nominated twice for a Pulitzer Prize for his photojournalism work. Their agent Thomas Hart, partner at Quarles & Brady law firm in Washington D.C., advocates for high-speed rail policy and legislation for USHSR. All four share a passion for making high-speed rail a reality in the United States.

“The book tells intriguing narratives from the point of view of the authors as well as characters,” said co-author Nancy Bolts. “It makes an emotional connection with the public and arouses the imagination of an America with modern high-speed rail moving transportation into the 21st Century,” said co-author Bolts.

Busboys and Poets is a restaurant, bookstore, fair trade market and gathering place where people can discuss issues of social justice and peace.
