There were several famous and very distinguished U.S. veterans who were born in the month of November.  But probably none more famous or distinguished than General George S. Patton, Jr., who was born on Veterans Day!

His military exploits and heroism during both World War I and World War II are legendary.  And his awards for valor exemplary, including the Distinguished Service Cross (2), Distinguished Service Medal (3), Silver Star (2), Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Order of the Bath, and Order of the British Empire.

“Old Blood and Guts” may have been a hard taskmaster, but I daresay no one loved his men more, was always staunchly loyal to them and led from the front as did General Patton (and perhaps no general more beloved by his troops than he!). The famous movie about his life is largely true and immensely entertaining and inspiring.  Patton was a brilliant general and inimitable leader.  And despite the many controversies about his life, he was an honorable man of the highest order.

We salute him and all our military veterans and active duty servicemen and women!
