The 59 Vets Project Introduces You to Great Sand Dunes National Park!

GREAT SAND DUNES

SHARE WITH EVERYONE WHO LOVES OUR VETERANS & NAT’L PARKS!

The United States is the only country in the world that sports every kind of topography and environment imaginable. Deserts, forests, oceans, lakes, rivers, water basins, glaciers, mountains, valleys, plains, you name it. Even sand dunes, as evidenced by the Great Sand Dunes National Park in the state of Colorado.

Here, you will find the tallest sand dunes in North America, which tower up to 750 feet (230 m) and were formed by deposits of the ancient Rio Grande in the San Luis Valley. Also sporting a variety of grasslands, shrublands and wetlands, the Great Sand Dunes National Park also enjoys alpine lakes, six 13,000-foot mountains and hauntingly beautiful old-growth forests.

The park is an awesome locale to work on your tan and sand-hiking skills, explore amazing wildlife and practice amateur photography. SHARE THIS INCREDIBLE STORY WITH EVERYONE!

There’s a reason why all of us here at the 59 VETERANS PROJECT love veterans, and why we call ourselves the 59 VETERANS. These men and women who served in our Armed Forces through the years are the bravest and best of us, and the service they’ve provided us is worthy of our eternal gratitude.

As a prime example, here’s the story of one such veteran who only recently showed the world (and Las Vegas!) just how great our military veterans are. The story is short but quite inspiring. But in addition to this, it has a really great, happy ending! So please read and share with everyone you know. They will thank you for it!

WOMEN IN OUR MILITARY

THE 59 VETS PROJECT INTRODUCES YOU TO MOH WINNER MATT URBAN!

MATT URBAN

SHARE THIS WWII HERO’S STORY WITH EVERYONE!

Matt Louis Urban was a U.S. Army lieutenant colonel. He is one of the most decorated infantry officers and Medal of Honor recipients in World War II. And here at the 59 VETERANS PROJECT you know how we love writing about and sharing stories about our heroic veterans!

As for Lt. Colonel Matt Urban, here is what one online source has to say:

“He fought in seven campaigns and suffered from seven different wounds. The German’s named him “The Gray Ghost” because he seemed to die and come back to life. When given the Medal of Honor, his citation referred to ten separate acts of bravery during the Normandy campaign alone. While walking with a cane because of a broken leg, Urban managed to destroy multiple enemy tanks using a bazooka. At one point he broke himself out of a hospital, hitchhiked to the front of a battlefield, and proceeded to fight. He even found an abandoned enemy tank, jumped inside, and proceeded, on his own, to drive towards enemy forces where he opened fire. After being shot in the throat he was forced to leave the battlefield, but he recovered and lived until 1995.”
