THE SUNLIGHT

Here strolling the past along a shimmering beach,
I can still envision the sunlight in your hair.
It was a time the future lay within our reach,
โ€˜Fore the past begged me to remember I was there!

The sea was turbulent and the rain was falling,
And gently I would caress its tears from your face.
Each day was a moment our future kept calling!
While the past became a dream it could not replace….

THE 59 VETS PROJECT INTRODUCES YOU TO MOH WINNER MATT URBAN!

MATT URBAN

SHARE THIS WWII HERO’S STORY WITH EVERYONE!

Matt Louis Urban was a U.S. Army lieutenant colonel. He is one of the most decorated infantry officers and Medal of Honor recipients in World War II. And here at the 59 VETERANS PROJECT you know how we love writing about and sharing stories about our heroic veterans!

As for Lt. Colonel Matt Urban, here is what one online source has to say:

“He fought in seven campaigns and suffered from seven different wounds. The Germanโ€™s named him โ€œThe Gray Ghostโ€ because he seemed to die and come back to life. When given the Medal of Honor, his citation referred to ten separate acts of bravery during the Normandy campaign alone. While walking with a cane because of a broken leg, Urban managed to destroy multiple enemy tanks using a bazooka. At one point he broke himself out of a hospital, hitchhiked to the front of a battlefield, and proceeded to fight. He even found an abandoned enemy tank, jumped inside, and proceeded, on his own, to drive towards enemy forces where he opened fire. After being shot in the throat he was forced to leave the battlefield, but he recovered and lived until 1995.”
