Sequoia National Park near central California is often called the protector park. For it protects the Giant Forest, which boasts some of the world’s largest trees, including the General Sherman, a giant sequoia which is the largest living tree on Earth! It stands almost 275 feet in height, with a circumference of 102 feet, and its largest branch having a diameter of 6.8 feet. General Sherman (named after the famous Civil War general!) has an estimated age of 2,300–2,700 years.
Other features of Sequoia National Park include over 240 caves, a long segment of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, and Moro Rock, a large granite dome. The park also contains among its natural resources the highest point in the contiguous 48 United States: Mount Whitney, which towers at 14,494 feet (4,418 m) above sea level.
Sequoia National Park is a giant place (spanning 404,064 acres) and a beautiful vacation spot during spring and summer of each year. To learn more about this magnificent national park, visit this giant website: https://www.nps.gov/seki/index.htm
