Just how beautiful is Great Basin National Park? Well, check out the photo here taken of just one small epic portion of it. Pretty beautiful, huh? And awfully epic.
In fact, when it comes to being epic, Great Basin is second to none!
Based around Nevada’s second tallest mountain, Wheeler Peak, Great Basin National Park contains 5,000-year-old bristlecone pines, a rock glacier, and the limestone Lehman Caves. It also enjoys some of the country’s darkest night skies. Animals which call the park home include the Townsend’s big-eared bat, pronghorn and Bonneville cutthroat trout.
The park derives its name from the Great Basin, the dry and mountainous region between the Sierra Nevada and the Wasatch Mountains. Topographically, this area is known as the Basin and Range Province. As it is, the park is located approximately 290 miles (470 km) north of Las Vegas and protects 77,180 acres (31,230 ha) of epic and beautiful terrain. That’s a lot of epic park to visit and experience!
